Gunfight At The O.K. Corral

Gunfight At The O.K. Corral
Wyatt Earp arrives in Tombstone, Arizona to help his brothers Morgan, James and Virgil police the town. The brothers soon run afoul of the lawless Clanton clan. When Doc Holliday, who holds his own grudge against Johnny Ringo, arrives in town and aligns himself with Wyatt, the conflict soon boils over into the streets of Tombstone. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Gunfight at the O.K. Corral”.

· At the beginning of the movie, Wyatt Earp is talking to Cotton Wilson in his office. Wyatt places both hands on the desk and comments “if you can’t handle it anymore, turn in your badge”. It cuts to a left side view of Wyatt and his hands are by his side, off the table.

· Wyatt walks into the saloon. In the rear view, one of the cowboys at the other table is sitting back, rocking in his chair, with his hands and arms off the table. It cuts to a front view, and the cowboy is sitting forward, his left hand holding the glass on the table. The scene switches to Wyatt and John sitting at their table and the cowboy is once again sitting back, rocking in his chair.

· Doc Holliday is talking to Wyatt at his office, trying to get Miss Denbow released from jail. In the front view of Doc (right side view of Wyatt), he comments “well spoken, I’ll repeat those words at your funeral”, and proceeds to take a drink. He’s sitting upright at the desk with his knees down. It cuts to a left side view and Doc is now leaned back in his chair, with his left knee propped against the desk.

· Did You Know? The movie shows James Earp making rounds for Wyatt when he’s gunned down in Tombstone, before the events at the O.K. Corral on October 26, 1881. In reality, James Earp was a saloon keeper who lived until 1926.

· Did You Know? Johnny Ringo is shown being shot and killed by Doc Holliday in Tombstone around the time of the O.K. Corral incident on October 26th, 1881. While he did get into an incident with Doc Holliday, Ringo lived until July 13th, 1882.

“Gunfight at the O.K. Corral” (1957) stars Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Rhonda Fleming, Dennis Hopper, Lee Van Cleef, DeForest Kelley, Martin Milner, John Hudson, John Ireland, and Jo Van Fleet. It runs 122 minutes and has a “Passed” rating.
