The Royal Couple Seeks Shelter

The Royal Couple Seeks Shelter
This morning, I am reaching out to the subscribers of BellaOnline's Canadian Culture supporters. I am the editor-in-training and hope you will remain a loyal follower. If you have any comments, please, don't be shy, and contact me, and I hope you have a lovely day.

At some time in our lives, we all look for a new home, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no exception. Only their criteria and pricepoint are slightly different than for the average person.

Since it is already trending as a topic in the rumor mill, The Royal Couple is considering Victoria, BC, as an option for a part-time home. And I can't blame them. Vancouver Island is the perfect choice for many reasons.

For starters: it's absolutely gorgeous here. It is the ultimate escape, and I can't fault Meghan and Harry for wanting a piece of tranquility. As Canadians, we are known for our polite and dignified manners. But sadly, The Sun and The Daily Mail, relentless tabloids that have already sent their hounds to track them and are selling the new private details of their lives. While I understand the interest, I also remember the day Princess Diana died. I've never forgotten the moment.

About Vancouver Island. Think of it as the Rhode Island on the extreme opposite west side of the North American continent and further north. Victoria looks into the eyes of Bellingham in Washington State, and on clear days it's possible to see Mt. Baker's snowcaps. Only the Haro Strait and group of islands separate the distance. North Saanich is a beautiful area worth visiting. And if you are lucky, you might have a pleasant and surprising encounter with the intrepid couple while out hiking. As is the reported experience of one hiking duo who had their photograph taken by Meghan while exploring the beauty of Horth Hill Regional Park.

Should the Royal Couple make the island a part-time home, I say, let us welcome them, and I believe it is their dignified right to enjoy the privacy they are seeking. At the same time, Meghan and Harry have already paid it forward. Meghan visited the Eastside Women's Centre in Vancouver, and both had pleasant interactions with locals while shopping in Victoria.

Let's allow them to enjoy peace. It can't be easy having every aspect of your privacy invaded. I know I wouldn't want that for myself.

On a side note, there is another group of Royals on the island. The first Royals to arrive are the junior hockey team and are also worth mentioning.
